We’re partnering with a growing consulting firm in the AEC industry that is looking to hire a Director of Accounting for their New York office. This is a highly visible role that blends traditional accounting oversight with forward-looking financial planning and strategic analysis.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Lead the preparation and delivery of monthly financial reporting packages, including internal management financial statements and business unit analysis.
Oversee the monthly revenue recognition process in line with GAAP and percentage-of-completion (POC) standards.
Maintain and manage POC/WIP schedules and related project financial tracking.
Develop and maintain financial dashboards, KPIs, and performance metrics.
Drive the annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
Conduct variance analysis (actual vs. budget, current vs. prior) and present insights to leadership.
Partner with senior leadership to support strategic planning, business case development, and long-range initiatives.
Collaborate with business unit leaders to assess revenue streams, cost drivers, and project profitability.
Evaluate the financial impact of business initiatives, market trends, and strategic decisions.
Help evolve and improve financial systems, reporting infrastructure, and analytical tools.
Work closely with the Accounting team to ensure alignment between financial planning and actuals.
Support year-end audits and special projects as needed.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
10+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3 years in a senior-level FP&A or strategic finance role.
Strong background in the AEC or professional services industries.
Experience working in a private equity-backed environment is preferred.
Advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities.
Familiarity with Deltek (Vantagepoint preferred)
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial statement analysis, and operational finance.
Proven track record of delivering actionable insights, leading planning cycles, and supporting senior leadership in driving performance.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. CPA, CMA, or MBA strongly preferred.
