SUMMARY As a Construction Manager supporting an HVAC mechanical design-build, plan and spec, retrofit, and construction business, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and coordinating various construction projects. Your key responsibilities will include ensuring the successful execution of projects, managing financial aspects of the construction business, forecasting project costs, planning labor resources effectively, and leading a team of project managers and estimators. Over time, the role will support various markets, including Virginia, Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Western Pennsylvania geographies. The Construction Manager is responsible for overall project management, including consulting with the owner; coordinating and leading partners; supervising members of the project team; and overseeing project implementation, financial and administrative oversight, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation of the project. This role serves as a key partner on design-influenced commercial HVAC projects for all phases of construction and post-sale implementation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides strategic leadership and technical, operational, financial, and managerial oversight for the construction business. Strong financial acumen and understanding of the construction business with forecasting, labor planning, and some P&L responsibilities.
Work closely with Owner Direct Sales associates to develop project requirements and determine project solutions.
Work successfully in a cross-functional team consisting of sales, project developers, automation engineers, and construction project managers while partnering with key mechanical and electrical subcontractors.
Works effectively in a team selling environment.
Gathers and validates preliminary information and performs facility walk-through, construction plan review, or other requirements.
Provides knowledge and consultation in the form of developing HVAC system-related solutions for the customer’s problems, including financial and performance-based considerations.
Determines project needs, constraints, and responsibilities to meet the customer’s HVAC system or building design and installation requirements.
Direct and manage project development from inception to project closeout.
Complete schedule of values, subcontract scopes, and budgetary construction estimates.
Develop full-scale project plans, coordination drawings, shop drawings, and construction schedules.
Ensures that the project and scope are technically sound, evidence-based, and consistent with customer requirements.
Develop a preliminary project fulfillment schedule.
Responsible for oversight of project take-off, selection, pricing, and integration of equipment, controls, and services.
Prepares transition documents and communicates project readiness for assignment to the operations team.
Willingness to attend and effectively participate in project meetings.
Manage contracts and form relationships with subcontractors.
Oversee administration team that executes final inspection of projects, invoicing, retainage, and customer satisfaction.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position will have responsibility for leading and developing the estimating team, project management team, and construction teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Construction or Engineering Technology, and 10+ years of construction management and project development experience.
Management or supervisory experience with project managers and construction personnel.
Strong understanding of energy markets, energy utility rebates, and tax incentive opportunities.
Understanding of basic energy conservation measures applied in buildings.
Proficient with HVAC systems, controls, and automation.
Excellent oral/written communication skills.
High level of presentation skills.
Excellent customer relations skills.
Marketing & market planning knowledge.
In-depth knowledge of the HVAC industry.
Ability to travel at least 20% of the time.
